A Claude agent for bank reconciliation

The agent matches bank statements with your ledger, clears the certain matches and explains every gap. Your accountant validates the proposed entries.

Definition

A Claude agent for bank reconciliation is an AI system that matches every transaction on the bank statements against the accounting entries, clears the certain matches, proposes a match for partial or grouped payments and documents every remaining gap. It operates in the orange zone: every accounting entry it proposes is validated by an accountant.

Recommended trust zone

Orange zoneSupervision

Clearing a certain match is reversible and traced: depending on the rules agreed with you, it can sit in the green zone. Every accounting entry and every unexplained gap moves to the orange zone: the agent proposes, the accountant validates before posting.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI agent post accounting entries without validation?
We don’t recommend it. The agent can clear certain matches on its own, a reversible and traced operation; the entries it proposes (bank fees, gaps, adjustments) are validated by an accountant before posting.
Which statement formats does the agent handle?
Structured statements (camt.053 under the ISO 20022 standard and, where banks still provide them, MT940 or France’s CFONB 120) retrieved through EBICS, a treasury platform or your ERP, and PDF statements as a fallback, with reinforced reading checks.
How do auditors follow the trail?
Every match shows the rule applied, the documents used and, where relevant, the human validation. These records sit alongside your accounting documents and supporting evidence, which national rules require you to keep; ten years in France under the Commercial Code (article L123-22).
Does the agent integrate with our ERP and our banks?
Yes. It connects to your ERP or accounting software and to your bank data sources through their APIs or MCP connectors, without changing your chart of accounts or your matching rules.
Where should we start?
With an account that carries a high volume of simple transactions: the agent clears, the team reviews its proposals, and reconciliation quality is measured over a few closes before the scope widens.
